  • The Week in Pictures

Here are some Instagram pics of my munchkins from this week!

  • Happy Mother's Day!

Charlie is 6 months on the left, and Olive is 7 months on the right. Olive looks ginormous because of the way she's sitting. Their features are completely different. Olive's features are girlier -- she has almond-shaped eyes, her lips are much fuller, her ears are much smaller, and her face is more oval.

But when she smiles, I can sometimes see Charlie's face in hers. Left Charlie 4 months, right Olive 7 months (taken today). It reminds of when Charlie used to be a baby.

Hope you had a very happy mother's day!

  • Instagram

I've only been using it a week, but I'm already hooked on Instagram. Since I'm not on Facebook or Twitter (except for work), Instagram has been fun to follow along on friends' lives. Find me at beekim if you want to see way too many pictures of Charlie and Olive and my boring life. I need to stop looking like such a hobo so I can actually be in some of the pictures. Here are some recent Instagram pics!

Left: Eating a red velvet twinkie! Right: Olive chillin in her Bumbo (check out that cowlick!)

Left: Charlie was so proud of the airplane he made with his Tegu Magnetic Blocks. Right: Eating pineapple in our backyard.

Our local Farmer's Market at Prospect Park.

Olive chillin in her tub and Charlie kissing Olive.

Charlie doing one of his favorite activities - jumping in puddles. And Smokey the cat.

Left: Charlie holding his friend Dahlia's hand as they go down the slide together. Right: Chocolate ice cream covered with rainbow sprinkles on an ice cream cone.

Left: Olive passed out in my lap in a milk coma. Right: Taking her morning nap in the carrier.

Left: Charlie at the doctor's office earlier today. We gave him some purple gloves and he said, "Look I have Barney hands!" Right: Shamefully still drinking from a bottle. Tough to pry it out of his hands when he has pretty much been sick since last October.

Poor Charlie is sick yet again. He woke up sobbing and sweating with a fever, and was up for hours in the middle of the night last night. We took him to the doctor today suspecting he might have yet another ear infection, but it turns out he has a throat infection. The doctor saw two more cases of the same thing before us. He's going to be home for the next couple of days. I really hope his immune system is stronger next year.

  • Still Sick.

It's been 9 days and I'm still sick as ever. Before having kids, I used to get sick once every couple of years. Post kids I get sick every couple of months. I think the combination of daycare germs, me working from home and not being exposed to the outside world, and lack of sleep contribute to getting sick often. Oh what I would give for a weekend off. I would sleep, eat, watch tv, and do absolutely nothing. Heaven!

PS - I just joined Instagram. I'm not on Facebook or Twitter, but Instagram seems like something I could keep up with. happy

    Are you on it?

  • The Sickness Cycle

Man it has been a brutal two weeks.

First our nanny was out Thursday and Friday 2 weeks ago because her daughter was really sick and hospitalized.

Then that same Thursday I got pickpocketed right after I pulled out $1000 from the bank. I filed a police report and had to deal with jerk cops who reluctantly took a report that my wallet was "lost" and not "stolen" because I didn't see the actual pickpocketer's face (apparently that's the law but there have been recent measures to change it). The pickpocketer ran right by the bank and was probably caught on the bank cameras, but the police refused to do anything about it. I know there is virtually no chance of catching the pickpocketer, but I want it reported as a crime to accurately reflect crime statistics in our area. Plus why do cops have to act like such jerks?

Charlie then caught a virus and was out of daycare Tuesday-Friday. He ended up having bronchiolitis, a fever, and ear infections in both ears. We had to give him steroids and antiobiotics 5x a day, and nebulize him 3x a day. He was NOT happy. He has barely eaten anything other than milk the past week, and there's a chance that he might develop asthma since he seems prone to these respiratory viruses.

By yesterday, we were without childcare for 10/11 consecutive days. And of course Mr. Bee and I caught Charlie's cold and have been sick since Saturday.

Just when I thought I would be able to catch up on some work, our nanny called in sick today because she probably caught what we all have, and she'll probably be out tomorrow too. That's 12/14 days without childcare in the past two weeks while taking care of a sick, cranky toddler, and being sick ourselves!

Phew sickness is a brutal cycle when you have kids.

The only bright spot is someone found my credit cards/license in his mailbox and returned it to me this weekend. Of course the money and wallet was gone though.
