  • Baby Heartbeat

I may discontinue my baby xanga and just blog here because I have too many sites.  I promise to try not to overload you with too much baby stuff!

I gave into my biggest temptation during this pregnancy yesterday: HOT DOGS.  I have a hot dog obsession, but you're not supposed to eat them while pregnant unless they're cooked until steaming hot because of the risk of listeria.  Mr. Bee's dad wanted hot dogs for the 4th of July, so we fired up the grill, prepared all the fixins, and I had one scrumptious super well cooked hot dog.  After that I ate the hugest bowl of spaghetti and ended up with a massive stomachache.  When I woke up this morning, my stomach was still bothering me so I decided to bust out the doppler to make sure the little baby bee was ok.

    I took a video!

17 Weeks Doppler from Weddingbee on Vimeo.

120-160 beats per minute is average, so the baby is right in the middle. It's still alive woohoo!

Pretty cool huh?  (Excuse my red boxer shorts with pink hearts on them.)

  • Fishing at Lake Joseph

Mr. Bee's dad is visiting from a remote island in the Philippines (it takes two days of travel to get here), so we wanted to do something a little extra fun and took him fishing upstate last Wednesday. (Mr. Bee is not Filipino -- his parents just retired there.  Someone always asks me that question when I mention the Philippines.)

We stayed at the Tack Room at the Inn at Lake Joseph, which was nice and large and had an adjacent second bedroom.  Mr. Bee and I have stayed at this Inn two other times -- it's a two hour drive from the city, and a nice mellow place to escape every once in awhile.

Boats and kayaks are available for free through the Inn.  This is a private lake only for the residents of Lake Joseph, so often you're the only one on the entire lake.

This is a catch and release lake, so it's teeming with large mouth bass, pikerel, and crappie.

We picked up nightcrawlers as bait from the local hardware shop.

Mr. Bee's dad was the only one to catch any fish! He caught this pickerel as soon as he dropped his line into the water.

    This was his second fish.

We didn't head out on a boat because they only seat two, and you need to row row row your boat manually.  You just have to bring your own battery and the Inn will let you borrow a motor.

I'd never used floaters before, but Mr. Bee's dad showed me that they work!

Next time we're definitely taking one of the boats because this guy caught 11 large mouth bass and 6 pickerel in 4 hours.

We set our remaining nightcrawlers free after we were done.

Hope you had a fabulous 4th of July!

  • Gone Fishin'

While I vastly prefer New York over Los Angeles, there are many things I miss about California... especially driving and the great outdoors.  In California I went scuba diving, fishing, camping, snowboarding and to the beach whenever I wanted to, and I really miss that.  Mr. Bee's dad is in town visiting, so we decided to take a day off tomorrow to take him fishing upstate before the 4th of July rush.

Just a short overnight trip necessitates so much planning!  Dog walker for Francis, cat sitter for Smokey and Sparky, book a zipcar, get a fishing license, buy bait, pack food, clothes, fishing gear...

I'm going to try to take as much of the day off as I can.  Enjoy the drive, read a book, go swimming and chill on the boat while waiting for a large mouth bass to bite.

    Happy Hump Day all!

  • Father's Day

I bought my dad the new BIG Kindle DX for Father's Day -- it comes out in 6 days, so alas the gift will be a little late.  My dad is not the most tech savvy person in the world, although he has taken to emailing me recently, so I hope this isn't too difficult for him to use.  If it is... I'm gonna jack him!

    Happy early Father's Day!

  • Mr. Bee and I are gonna slowly start looking at different neighborhoods next month.  I'm rooting for the Upper West Side, but Brooklyn is a possibility because of some future projects we have planned.  I'm not looking forward to moving -- to be honest we haven't even finished unpacking since we moved into this apartment last October.  But I am looking forward to... my own office!  A walk-in closet!  A washer/dryer!  More space!

My friend called me a wannabee bohemian awhile back because I love the West Village so much.  I vastly prefer the old brownstones here than new luxury buildings.  The Village is still my favorite neighborhood in Manhattan, but it's a dying neighborhood.  Restaurants close every week, there are no young people -- most of the residents are older, and the type of apartment we're looking for is just too pricey here.

I'm leaving for a 4 day conference at the Cayman Islands this Sunday where I'll be a featured speaker.  I didn't tell my mom I was going or she'd freak out -- she doesn't think I should fly or do anything that may put the slightest amount of stress on my body.  But it's too good of an opportunity to pass up because everyone who is anyone in the wedding industry will be there.  I'll probably only have a couple of hours of downtime while I'm there, but I can't wait!  The weather has been so dreary the past.... 9 months... and I'm a Southern California beach girl.

I used to look forward to the weekends so that I could catch up on the work that I didn't have time to work on during the week.  Now as soon as it's Monday, I count down the days until it's Friday.  Friday evening is the absolute best time of the week.

    TGIF!
